1-800-PetMeds partners with Petfinder’s founder in new mission: 911fosterpets.com

Betsy Banks Saul, founder of Petfinder and 911fosterpets

If you’ve adopted a shelter pet over the last 20 years, there’s a good chance that you know of Petfinder. Founded in 1996 by Betsy Saul, Petfinder.com has facilitated over 25 million adoptions over the last 20 years, and is the largest pet adoption website in the world.

And now, Betsy and her team have set out on a new mission — to help the millions of shelter pets that don’t get the chance to find their forever home, simply because their shelter has run out of space for them.

911fosterpets.com is Betsy’s newest creation.  And its goal is simple:  Find foster volunteers who would like to help by caring for a shelter pet on a short-term basis (usually 1 month or less) until their forever home is found.  By moving pets from overcrowded shelters and into temporary foster homes, millions of pets’ lives would be saved every year.  And yes, these include healthy puppies and kittens.

“When choosing partners for our mission, we were looking for companies that not only share our views, but have a deep connection with pet parents who can help make this mission a reality”, said Betsy.  “That’s why we reached out to 1-800-PetMeds.  They are advocates of shelter pets and their community of pet parents is the perfect match.”

At 911fosterpets.com, there are currently thousands of pets in need of short term foster homes, as well as local rescue groups who need foster volunteers.  Most rescue groups cover the cost of veterinary care, food and other supplies.
