I am Dr. John Simon and I have been practicing holistic veterinary medicine since I became certified in acupuncture in 1982. At that time there were very few holistic practitioners and most of my colleagues thought I was a bit weird performing acupuncture on animals. Of course that attitude has changed greatly over the last 30 years and now acupuncture for animals is well accepted amongst my fellow veterinarians. Since becoming certified in acupuncture I have gone on to be certified in animal chiropractics. I have also taken advanced courses in homotoxicology, clinical nutrition, and both western and chinese herbology. On going continuing education is imperative for any veterinarian entering the area of holistic veterinary care. I totally agree everything Dr. Dym has written here and would encourage all pet owners to consider holistic care for their pets. It is important to understand that holistic medicine includes traditional drug medicine when it is used judiciously.
