My cat has been taking the Methimazole 5 mg tablets twice a day. I usually give it to him in the morning and evening? Is there a better time to give him the pills?

Also, he has had really bad diarrhea which has become a mess. I have been giving him a supplement called Runnipoo which has helped in the past (herbalistic).

Do you think the medication is causing the diarrhea? What can I do to help him recover. Although he eats and is hungry all the time (I give him mostly soft food now) he is so skinny.

Thank you.

Methimazole can cause loss of appetite in some cats so I would have your cats thyroid rechecked to see if you can lower dose. ALso make sure your vet has done complete workup to rule out other causes of appetite/weight loss. Many elder cats can have multiple diseases. You can try supporting his thytoid with supplements like standard process thytrophin PMG and symplex F. Some vets who are herbalists have used bugle weed in mild cases. See www.AHVMA.org for list of holistic vets in your area but this condition not easy to treat holistically.

My cat is taking Methimazole 5mg chicken vetchew for hyperthyroidism. Currently she is taking 1 vetchew in the moring and 1/2 in the evening. I am concerned that she is not eating as good as she usually does. Also, she has lost aproximately 1/2 pound this past month. All other behaviors are very normal. Is there any holistic treatment that would help? Please reply.
Thank you.
