What Does the “Vet-VIPPS” Gold Seal Mean?
If you have shopped on the PetMeds website, you may have noticed the Vet-VIPPS seal, but do you know what the seal means to you when you’re ordering your pet’s medications? The term “Vet-VIPPS” stands for Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Site. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) established the Vet-VIPPS program, and awards this accreditation to certain online pet pharmacies that meet specific licensing and inspection requirements. According to the NABP:
In response to public concern of the safety of pharmacy practices on the Internet, the association developed the Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (Vet-VIPPS) program in the spring of 2009. A coalition of state and federal regulatory associations, professional associations, and consumer advocacy groups provided their expertise in developing the criteria which Vet-VIPPS certified Pharmacies follow.
Pharmacies displaying this Vet-VIPPS seal have also demonstrated compliance with other rigorous criteria such as ensuring the appropriate handling of prescription medications, providing appropriate medication information, and adherence to a recognized quality assurance policy. Once accredited, there is an annual review as well as a three-year re-accreditation process to ensure continued compliance.
The bottom line is that when you see this seal, you can be assured that the pharmacy holding the accreditation is properly licensed, complies with state and federal laws and regulations, and upholds the highest standards.
