Bella Trains For A New Job: Therapy Dog, Part 3

Hi again, it’s just me, Bella. I am so relieved! On August 26th Mommy and I met with our Tester/Observer Carole Kelly for our third field observation at Antelope Valley Healthcare and completed the last requirements to become registered Pet Therapy Team with Therapy Dogs Inc!

Looking back over the past few months since I embarked (get it? emBARKed?) on this adventure, I have to say a big Thank You to my furrend Dr. Dawn Marcus for putting the challenge in front of Mommy, with her book The Power of Wagging Tails. Dr Dawn’s book reveals the power that dogs have to bond with and help heal the human spirit.  Here I am during one of my study sessions with the book:

I was overjoyed when I received my packet in the mail!  In it were a copy of the News Magazine, filled with wonderful stories about dogs doing good works, and lots of information about the organization itself. There was a big Certificate  with both of our names on it, and a Member ID card for Mommy. There was also a Member Handbook which Mommy will have to study:

The most precious jewel of all, however, is the red heart ID tag that I am now officially able to wear on my collar when I am making therapy visits:

So now you know how I spent my summer! Being a Pet Therapy Team is an all volunteer endeavor, and Mommy and I so look forward to meeting new furrends and working with them in sharing smiles and joy. I hope you had a fun summer too!

  2. Thank you so much Bella for sharing your wonderful story with us. Your photos are beautiful, especially your study session and your coveted Therapy Heart. It’s amazing how one little girl can bring so much joy to so many people. You and Mommy accomplish more in a day than most people do in a week. You always brighten my day!

  3. Bella, How wonderful…I know you make the people happy when you visit them. You make me happy just reading your blogs and posts. Congratulations!!

  4. Congratulations, Bella. You are about to amazing your mommy even more than she could imagine. As you know, I’m a doctor, but have learned so much from watching my dogs on their visits with people that they never taught us in medical school. Therapy dog visits are an incredible adventure and an amazing gift for the person getting the visit, the dog’s owner, and the dog. Your bond with your mommy will grow even more special as you work as a therapy dog team and I’m sure you’ll often hear her say, “Bella! That was incredible!”
