Celebrate DOGust With PetMeds®!

Every dog has their day on DOGust First, the universal birthday for shelter dogs. To celebrate, PetMeds® is giving away a DOGust Birthday Prize Package.
According to the ASPCA, over three million dogs are taken in at animal shelters across the United States each year, many without records of their previous history, their past name, or even a birthday.
In recognition of adopted rescues and dogs currently awaiting adoption in shelters, dog lovers celebrate DOGust First on August 1st as a universal birthday for all rescue dogs. First coined by North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) in 2008, it’s also a holiday to raise awareness of dogs who are still in need.
Dog parents of rescues can celebrate by taking their dog on a special outing to their favorite park, serving up a favorite meal, or going on a shopping spree for treats and toys.
Rescue dogs in need of homes deserve to be honored too. Anyone can join in on the celebration by supporting a local shelter through volunteering, donating, or even adopting a new four-legged family member to give them the best birthday gift ever: a forever home.
There’s millions of dogs in shelters right now waiting to be adopted. Those who aren’t sure if they’re ready to adopt can volunteer to walk or foster a dog and might just meet their new best friend.
PetMeds® is celebrating shelter dogs by giving away DOGust Birthday prize packs to 4 lucky winners through the month of August. All dog parents are invited to enter for a chance to win by leaving a comment below.

My dog Bella celebrated with a ride in the car for ice cream. We stopped by the dog park and she got to see her four legged friends. Then we came home and sat on the porch watching neighborhood doggies walk by. We went for a quick walk, followed by a chewy treat. Lots of petting and love and some quality toy time: tugging and squeaking her favorite toys.
We just took our old lab to a concert in the park. She was livelier than I’ve seen her in quite a while and seemed to really enjoy the new place and all the other people and dogs.
Mollie is WAY overweight, so we are spending the rest of the summer on walks around the neighborhood and the local parks. She loves to go for car rides, sticking her nose out of the window and smelling the fresh air.
Roxy my dog we go to dog beach and dog park for 3 hours every morning so she can play with her friends.
Josiah is a therapy dog. He will go to our local youth shelter and the kids will throw tennis balls for him. Dogs will have doggy ice cream & humans will have their own ice cream.
Our furry old man will turn 18 next month, and we will take him to the park to sniff around & enjoy lots of special treats.
Charlotte is going to be 3 years old on December 12th, 2022.
I adopted Charlotte on January 22, 2022 from the Plano Pet Shelter in Plano Texas.
For Charlotte’s Birthday I am going to invite all of her doggie friends from our Apartment building down to our Dog Park and we will have all of Charlotte’s favorite treats, which is everything. Then it will be time for her birthday “Cake”. Everyone gets a piece..
Since we live in Texas I don’t think it will get very cold, so there will be ball chasing games (that is her favorite). Tug of War, and Frisbee. After the party we will all go home and take naps..That is another favorite thing for Charlotte to do..Don’t forget your blanket..
Gus is going to a refresher camp of obedience basic training. He’s a great smart dog. He is just full of energy and needs a bit more of socializing. He loves the camp he attends and their trainers. After his training sessions he runs and plays with his new friends.
This really works out for us both when I can’t take him with me on travel
We went for a ride in the Jeep and got timbits (doughnut holes), a pupcup, went shopping for a new toy and then came home to share treats with his siblings and went for a walk and ended our day with snuggles 🥰
Bella got an oatmeal bath this week since she’s struggling from dry skin, and today she’s getting a much-needed haircut to help her get through this hot August weather! She’ll feel much better after that!
Dakoda (Yellow Labrador Retriever) will be 3 years old on September 9th. I will give him a bath on the 7th or 8th. He loves baths. On his birthday we will go for a long walk in his favorite stretch of woodsregardless of whether it is raining or sunny. He will have special meal of course and his day will be sprinkled with special treats and toys. Of course this will be well documented by an increase in photo/video taking. lol.
I’m taking my dog camping. We drive out into the country and visit state wildlife management areas. She loves being outdoors and exploring.
My Tiny’s 9th birthday is this month!! We will post on social media and she’ll get a special birthday egg prepared for her. And lots of snuggles and love, of course.
For Lucy’s gotcha day on Aug. 13, we are going to get a pup cup, a new toy, go on a hike, and have a pawty with birthday hats/necklaces and a special homemade doggie treat. We’ll of course share the day with all her followers on Instagram @LucyLu_theadventurepup and she’ll get all the snuggles and kisses from me, her daddy and her brother Felix kitty.
Lucy’s gotcha day is super special because it’s when I saved her from death row at the shelter. I brought her home as a foster pup and she fell in love with me and was right at home in an instant. It’s been four years this month and baby girl has learned to love the water, to love the men in my life, and is just the most loyal and amazing pup.
For birthdays, we take our girls and boys to the local Dairy Bar for a small, shared-by-spoon “doggie size” soft serve vanilla ice cream dish. SO much fun, and a great photo opp!
My Sammy is a 13 year old Border Collie/Bernese Mountain mix I adopted when he was a pup. Someone had dropped him over the fence and I’ve been so blessed to have him in my life! We will continue going for walks, getting in his kiddie pool, we play “I’m gonna getcha” game with his favorite toy where we chase each other or play hide and seek. He motivates me to exercise and gets me laughing! 🙂 His smile and bright eyes are the best! Today he got just a bit of oatmeal mixed in his food which he just devoured and soon he will get a bath! 🙂
We have 3 rescue dogs. TAZ was set to be euthanized b/c they thought the litter was part pitbull in CA. LILY was thrown out of moving vehicle and ditched in TX. SOPHIE was on her way to a shelter in ID after being given up 3x!
All 3 we rescued at different times over the past 7 years. They immediately formed a PACK. Every year we celebrate not their birthdays but their adoptions! We take them somewhere where they can run till their hearts’ content! They play, wrestle, jump, chase, explore, dig, swim, roll (& yes sometimes roll in something very disgusting–look at me mama I smell so pretty!). They get all cleaned up, fed yummy homemade food, and get tucked in front of a warm fire. ITS A DOG PILE! This year we are taking them to the Oregon Coast- Walport. Renting a house near the beach where everyday they will get to run with their pack. Where their fur parents can celebrate their adoptions with pride at how far they have came, with love they’ve blossomed into 3 beautiful funny, quirky, silly, adorable, lovable
Mutts! As a thank you we donate yearly to the shelters–non-profits that rescued and transported them to us! We are grateful and blessed!
Perfect timing. We pick up the rescue dog we adopted tomorrow. So very excited. Her name is Harper. The heartbreak of losing our two beloved dogs of 14 years broke us. We said never again. That was a Year and a half ago. Never say never. I will not sleep tonight. 😁
My two rescue dogs and I love celebrating Dogust with splashing around in Lake Michigan, hiking and exploring through the dunes!
Deacon turns 2 on August 9, and I turn… much older than him on August 14. So we’re celebrating both birthdays together with a weekend stay at a dog friendly campground, with our friends and their dog Hazel. There will be hiking, swimming, fetch, tug, and bellyrubs once we’re happily tired. If Deacon is really lucky, we’ll even find something gross he can roll around in. Yay! 🤣
Tigger, my Chihuahua mix, was rescued in March of 2017 at a shelter by me and his Daddy, who Tigger adored. Unfortunately, on DOGust 1st we were both feeling very sad, because we lost his Daddy this past May. I gave him a lot of extra cuddles (which helped me too), got him a new collar, leash and chew bone and took him to the park for a long walk. I’m counting my blessings I have my little rescue piece of love to see me through both my good days and bad. Rescue dogs are the BEST❤️
We spoil both of our dogs for their birthdays. The puggle, Rylee, gets a basket of squeaky toys/treats and the german shepherd, Roxy, gets a basket of bones/treats.
Our rescue dog Sadie got new toys for her birthday. She loves her rubber piggies, balls and tug toys.
I have one doggie at the moment, and I celebrate everyday with her. 🙂
Sweet Qvesty is now getting insulin shots every day and his glaucoma has made him comfortable only in our home. This year’s birthday will have to be extra special…thanks for the opportunity, PetMeds!
