Celebrate DOGust With PetMeds®!

Every dog has their day on DOGust First, the universal birthday for shelter dogs. To celebrate, PetMeds® is giving away a DOGust Birthday Prize Package.

According to the ASPCA, over three million dogs are taken in at animal shelters across the United States each year, many without records of their previous history, their past name, or even a birthday.

In recognition of adopted rescues and dogs currently awaiting adoption in shelters, dog lovers celebrate DOGust First on August 1st as a universal birthday for all rescue dogs. First coined by North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) in 2008, it’s also a holiday to raise awareness of dogs who are still in need.

Dog parents of rescues can celebrate by taking their dog on a special outing to their favorite park, serving up a favorite meal, or going on a shopping spree for treats and toys.

Rescue dogs in need of homes deserve to be honored too. Anyone can join in on the celebration by supporting a local shelter through volunteering, donating, or even adopting a new four-legged family member to give them the best birthday gift ever: a forever home.

There’s millions of dogs in shelters right now waiting to be adopted. Those who aren’t sure if they’re ready to adopt can volunteer to walk or foster a dog and might just meet their new best friend.

PetMeds® is celebrating shelter dogs by giving away DOGust Birthday prize packs to 4 lucky winners through the month of August. All dog parents are invited to enter for a chance to win by leaving a comment below.

My older cat adopted her and when we rescued a kitten they both looked after her together. We have had many rescued cats and dogs through the years. We give them love and the best life we can. Sadie is by far the smartest dog we have had. She is like a 2 year old and we love her dearly.

  12. well, we actually missed Moki’s birthday on August 14th,,,we had a lot of family (2 legged) stuff going on…but he turned 6 and on August 25th will be one year that he has been part of our family. We adopted him at a time in our lives that we suffered a sudden tragic loss of a family member. Moki has helped to soothe our pain, by giving us someone to hug and love on when no one else was near…..he has also given us lots of laughs when he is silly and gets us out walking every day! We have come to love him!!!

  20. Sherlock and I will be picked up by A limo and driven to a pvt air strip. We’ll board a private G5 jet and whisk away to the Virgin Islands. The Ritz-Carlton will be our home. We have a 100’ Yacht waiting to do a beach pick up. The day will be spent cruising around the British Virgin Islands. Upon returning we’ll tie up to the Pizza Pi boat for some on the spot snacks. Returning to the Ritz there will be a Private Cabana waiting for us to do some serious napping. Disclaimer; this is all made up. Lol Sherlock will be somewhere on the property. He’s a Free Range Dog so he comes and goes at will. One day he came walking through the woods carrying a rabbit in his mouth. The only thing left over was some fur and the White Tail.

  21. By the beachside, enjoying treats and smooches!

  22. Our rescue dog Addy unfortunately started loosing weight rapidly. I carried her to the vet and found out that she had an inoperable pancreatic tumor. She’s unfortunately not following every step my wife or I take anymore. Had a great six years and lots of memories and love. Her big sister Maxie was born in August and is a ten year old lab and a ball of fire. She’s ready to get after some ducks very soon. There’s no greater reward than seeing all of the time you spend with her before the season come out when it is duck season. She’s just a natural. I as well as others who have hunted with her have never seen another dog that has what she has. Love Maxie, really miss Addy.

  23. My Bo bears birthday is in May. But he’s game for a heavy bone, slice of cheese, and a good ole walk.

  24. Gravy bone

  25. We have adopted several rescue dogs over the past 38 years, but our most recent is a border collie mix we named Hurley Finn, and he is approximately 9- 10 months old right now! We have gone to the doggie beach with him many times this summer, and he loves it! He has made several new friends there, and on very hot days he has enjoyed puppy ice cream!! He loves our 9 1/2 year old dog and our two 12 year old cats, and they graciously put up with his crazy antics! He chews everything, so we have a Nyla bone in every room! We LOVE our furry family members, and feel Blessed to have them in our lives! : )
