[Giveaway] Proud Pet Parents Sweepstakes

With Mother’s Day just around the corner and Father’s Day not far behind, it’s the perfect time for pet parents to get their own honorable mention of appreciation.

While you may not get a handmade card or a pasta-and-playdough tribute from your favorite fur-kids as a show of thanks, the truth is that our four-legged family members give us a whole lot in return all year long. Here are three special gifts we get from our pets:

The look of love. Any time we kiss, hug, pet, or cuddle our pets, it sets off the release of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, hormones that make us feel happy and relaxed. These hormones control many of the body’s processes like digestion, memory, and sleep. So, being around our pets simply makes us feel better. But we don’t have to even cuddle our pets to get those benefits – even just making eye contact with them sets off those happy hormones.

A lifetime supply of belly-laughs. Whether your cat never fails to impress you with their acrobatic napping positions or your dog invents a new dance every time you get home, a pet’s sense of humor is unmatched. Though responsibilities of caring for a pet can get overwhelming, our pets make up for it tenfold with their seemingly magical ability to make everything better. What’s more, they zap high levels of the stress hormone cortisol by keeping us laughing with their antics.

The strength to handle anything. The American Heart Association has conducted studies that suggest dog parents live longer and recover more easily from a heart attack or stroke. Both dogs and cats seem to strengthen our immune systems, especially for young children who grow up with four-legged siblings. No matter what comes our way, our pets help keep us strong enough to get through it.

Though it’s endlessly rewarding, we know that being a great pet parent doesn’t always come easy. Between being their personal pooper-scooper, nurse, teacher, and waitstaff, you work hard to keep your pet healthy and happy.

As our way of saying thank you on behalf of your four-legged family members, 1-800-PetMeds® invites you to enter our Proud Pet Parents Sweepstakes.

  2. Great article! I always knew the joy that Buster, Jupiter, and Ziggy give me is good for my entire body as well as my soul. As more research and technology is done we are realizing that dogs have been with humans since the existence of man. There must be a reason why through all these centuries we continue to exist together.

  8. Great knowledge. My husband and I are disabled, and we were just moping around the house trying to figure out where we go next. We raised six wonderful, intelligent, and caring kids who have all now flown the coop. So, what do we do now? We were lost. Then, we were introduced to a friends “puppy”. He was the most beautiful, loving, and playful 10 month-old, 90lb Rottweiler puppy named Drago . She had just gotten him the day before, for us! OMG! We fell in love with him immediately and he with us. We don’t know what we would do without him now. He has given us a new, happy, and loving goal-driven life. His emotional and physical life is in our hands, and we spoil him horribly. He’s our new baby boy.

Great Article! I can’t imagine life without my dog, Sadie! I have diabetes. My diabetes mostly drops while I’m sleeping. I’ve never trained my dog to wake me up when when my sugar drops. Most of the time my sugar drops down in the 30’s.
