[Giveway] Summer Grooming For Horses

Whether you’re gearing up for showing season or just looking forward to long afternoon rides, you and your horse are in for a fun summer. To help kick off the season, we’re sharing our grooming tips to keep your horse looking and feeling their best in the summer heat. Plus, you’re invited to enter our Summer Grooming Giveaway for a chance to win premium horse grooming products.

Summer Brushin’
In the summer, dried sweat leaves a residue on your horse’s skin, which can lead to itching and irritation. For your horse, it may feel even worse with the addition of friction from wearing tack. Brushing often in the summer loosens dried sweat, along with trapped, shed hair, dusty soil, and other residue that can dull your horse’s shine. A curry comb or FurBliss Brush traps residue, leaving their coat silky and shiny.

Frequent brushing also gives you an opportunity to bond with your horse, get them accustomed to handling, and check for bug bites, bumps, or abnormalities.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat
You can rinse your horse with a sponge or hose daily to help them cool down, especially during the hottest hours of the day, or after a ride. It’s not necessary to shampoo your horse every time you rinse them. Too much shampooing can dry out the skin’s natural oils.

Shampoo your horse every 2-4 weeks in the summer to help them stay clean and comfortable. Rinse and follow with a silicone spray for a smooth, shiny coat.

Summer Hoof Care
During the summer, hooves grow quickly, meaning you might need to see your farrier more often. Depending on your region, you may also be facing summer rains. As the outdoor conditions quickly shift from dry to wet and dry again, moisture can enter the hoof, leading to cracks and abscesses. Daily hoof picking plus a hoof dressing can help keep those feet strong and healthy.
