Leo Goes to Puppy Class
Before we got Leo, I knew I wanted to take him to puppy class to train him the basics and have another opportunity to socialize him. In reality, I’m the real student here. Other than the articles I’ve read, I have no idea how to raise a well-mannered puppy. Our vet told us to wait until Leo was at least 4 months old to start a puppy class because if we did so sooner he wouldn’t retain anything he learned.
This past weekend we had our first puppy class, and it was fun! We decided to go with a small group training class so Leo could meet more dogs (and because it’s less expensive than private training). There were four other dogs in class with us. One of them, an adorable tiny Corgi, gave me puppy fever all over again (until she had an accident in the middle of class).
Leo, in my humble (not) opinion, was the star pupil of the class. Some of the commands he already knew before the class, like the hand motion for “sit”, but for all the new commands, he was quick to learn and master them. I’m not sure if it’s because of his breed or that he’s very food-motivated, but Leo was very eager to please.
I’m excited to see how he excels in the coming weeks of class. 1 down 5 to go!
