[New Product] Help Treat your Pet’s Seborrhea

What is Seborrhea?

Canine and feline Seborrhea is a skin condition that can either be inherited (primary) or occur as a result of another medical issue (secondary), both of which can be treated with cleansers like DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo. While relatively rare in both cats and dogs, primary seborrhea is common in Persian and Himalayan cats. Dog breeds that are most commonly known for suffering from Canine Seborrhea are Shar-Peis, West Highland, White Terriers (Westies), Doberman Pinschers, American Cocker Spaniels, German Shepherds, English Springer Spaniels, Golden Retrievers, Basset Hounds, Labrador Retrievers, Irish Setters,  and Dachshunds.

Secondary seborrheic dermatitis is more commonly a result of other medical conditions, like:

  • Allergies
  • Fleas and ticks
  • Infection
  • Scabies
  • Mange
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Endocrine disorders (Cushing’s and thyroid disease)
  • Dietary deficiencies (poor diet/obesity)
  • Malabsorption disorders
  • Fungal infection (especially yeast skin infections)
  • Bacterial infection
  • Environmental factors (changes in temperature or humidity)
  • Poor grooming
  • Cancer (especially cutaneous lymphoma)

Does my pet have a seborrheic skin condition?

Your pet may be suffering from seborrhea dermatitis if you notice they have dry, flaky skin (dandruff), greasy skin and hair that usually emits a foul smell, inflamed skin, and scratching. If your pet scratches the affected areas too much, it may lead to bleeding, crusting, or hair loss.

If you notice any of these symptoms, take your pet in to see your veterinarian. If it’s a secondary condition, you may be able to rid your pet of seborrhea altogether by taking care of the medical condition that is causing it. If it’s primary seborrhea, you can manage the symptoms with shampoos and sprays.

Relieve your pet’s seborrheic symptoms with DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo

DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo is a soap-free formulated shampoo meant to treat symptoms of all types of seborrhea skin conditions in dogs and cats. It cleans greasy, dry, flaky, and scaly skin while moisturizing and soothing the skin.

The main ingredient, phytosphingosine, contains moisturizing and soothing agents that help restore the skin barrier, which aids in bringing the skin back to normal. DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo also helps the skin maintain normal bacterial and yeast flora.

DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo is an over-the-counter product, available in a 16.9 oz bottle. It can also be used alongside DOUXO Seborrhea Micro-Emulsion Spray. Talk to your vet and see if DOUXO Seborrhea Shampoo is right for your dog.

  21. I think my Labrador retriever, Sam, would benefit from this treatment. Heaven knows we have tried everything, or at least everything every veterinarian including a holistic veterinarian has suggested. He has had every allergy test there is and he is allergic to many things but nothing that I could not eliminate from his environment except oak trees which are just every where where I live. All told I have spent over $1K in shots, pills, ointments etc to no avail. I did not mind spending the money because I thought it would help my Sam but nothing and I mean nothing has made any kind of a difference.

  24. Where can you buy this product? My cocker spaniel suffers with allergies and gets a skin rash. She scratches and bites herself everywhere, from paws to tail. Poor baby, it interrupts play time because she has to stop to itch or bite areas. 🙁 This is with her monthly allergy shot at the vet and specialized RX dog food. Tried so many probiotic powders, tablets, Omega pills, etc. Can’t find a solution. Currently using a peroxide based shampoo, that sits on her for 5 minutes or so before rinsing off. We would love a free sample of this shampoo to see if we can finally find a product that will ease the discomforts.
