Daisy shares her Cinco de Mayo celebration ideas
Happy Cinco de Mayo! This is one of my favorite holidays, on account of I get to wear this fancy sombrero and colorful serape. But Cinco de Mayo is about more than just dressing up. I looked it up and found out that this is a day that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory in the Battle of Puebla in 1862, because this was a turning point in the Franco – Mexican war. Even though that was before I was born, it is still a day we can celebrate Mexican heritage and culture. Plus, I look cute in this hat!
There are lots of fun ways you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo! You can watch a parade, or host a fun party and serve traditional Mexican dishes. How about dancing to some Tejano music? I’m going to try filling a piñata with cat treats and letting Harley break it open so I can eat all the treats inside. If you can’t get a piñata to play with, it is okay to just play with your favorite toys instead.
And I have another great idea! If you are looking to add a furry friend to your family, why not consider adopting a Chihuahua? This little dog breed with the big personality was named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where it is thought to have originated. Because the Chihuahua is a popular breed, you can probably find one at your local shelter or look for a breed-specific rescue group. I know for sure that if you adopt a Chihuahua (or any other dog or cat) looking for a home, it will be a cause for a big celebration!
