Your cat can be a good cat, too!

By now, I’m sure you have realized that I am a Very Good Cat, on account of I (almost) never misbehave. Even though I do enjoy a good scratch every day, I never scratch where I am not supposed to scratch. You might think this took a lot of training and willpower, but you would be wrong. What’s my secret? I’ll tell you!

The secret is to have an excellent scratching post! I love my scratching post so much I never want to scratch anywhere else. Having the right scratching post makes it easy for any cat to be a good cat and not get into trouble for scratching in a forbidden place. What are the things that make this one so great?

  • It’s nice and tall so I can really stretch out
  • Plus, it’s very sturdy so I don’t have to worry about it falling over on me.
  • It has a texture I really enjoy sinking my claws into. This one is sisal, but you might prefer cardboard, carpeting or wood.
  • It’s also placed right next to the bed so I can use it first thing in the morning. No cat wants to go out of the way to use a scratching post hidden in some faraway corner!

In case you were wondering, Harley also confines his scratching to the post. In most ways, he’s a maniac but in this one way, he’s a Pretty Good Boy. Personally, I think he just does it to show off the muscles in his arms.

The other thing I love about my scratching post is I can use it as a tiny, elevated chair. Since I have a small behind I fit, but it’s far too small for Harley to sit up here.

Wheeeeee! It makes a great launching pad, too.

Here’s a picture of the scratching post I recommend. It’s covered in my preferred sisal, and it’s even bigger than the one I have now. And the best part is that it comes with a special cushioned pad for cats that like to sit on top of the post, like me!

You should see him scratching, he scratches like he’s digging for gold!

  9. The only time I’m not good about scratching is when I don’t have a proper place to scratch! Every time we stay in a hotel my human forgets the scratcher so I have to use the carpet – it’s a good thing hotel carpet is sturdy! But she needs to start remembering – we have a small cardboard scratcher just for that purpose.
